Open Modal
slack.open_view
ActionChat & messagingconnection required
Calls the Slack Web API with the connection's bot token.
Open a Block Kit modal in front of the user who triggered the interaction.
Connection
- Required
- Yes — the node will not save without one
- Auth type

Configuration
3 fields, 1 required. A dotted path is a nested object and name[] an array of objects — the editor renders the same tree.
| Field | Type | Required | Default | Constraints | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
trigger_id The trigger_id from the interaction that started this run. Valid 3 seconds. | string | No | — | — | — |
interactivity_pointer The newer interactivity pointer, used in place of a trigger_id. | string | No | — | — | — |
view The Block Kit view payload as a JSON object, with type, title and blocks. | object | Yes | — | ≥ 1 characters | — |
- At least one of trigger_id, interactivity_pointer must be set.
Output
One shape.
result
| Field | Type | Example |
|---|---|---|
ok Always true; a failure raises instead. | boolean | true |
view_id Slack's id for the view that was opened or published. | string | — |
hash The view's version hash — pass it back to guard an update. | string | — |
view The whole view object Slack returned, unmodified. | object | — |

"hash": "",
"ok": true,
"view": {},
"view_id": ""
}Notes
- The bot must be a member of a private channel before it can act there (Slack answers not_in_channel otherwise).
- Slack rate-limits each Web API method on its own tier; a throttled call fails with the number of seconds to wait and is safe for the node's retry policy to repeat.
- A trigger_id expires three seconds after the interaction, so this node has to be the first step of an interaction-triggered workflow, not a later one.
- Slack returns the failing field paths when a view payload is malformed; they are included in the error message.
Templates that use Slack
See Open Modal run in a workflow.
In a technical demo we add the Slack connection, drop the node on the canvas and let Workflow Health pre-flight it before the first real run.
