Configuration
6 fields, 1 required. A dotted path is a nested object and name[] an array of objects — the editor renders the same tree.
| Field | Type | Required | Default | Constraints | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
path The absolute path of the item, starting with a slash — or a Dropbox 'id:…' / 'rev:…' reference. | string | Yes | — | — | /Reports/2026/q1.csv |
audience Who may use the link: anyone, the team only, or no one (the link points at the item without granting access). | string | No | — | one of "public", "team", "no_one" | — |
access What the audience may do with the link — view, edit, or whichever level Dropbox allows as the maximum or default. | string | No | — | one of "viewer", "editor", "max", "default" | — |
link_password Require this password to open the link. Leave blank for no password. | string | No | — | credential material | credential |
expires When the link should stop working (RFC 3339, UTC). Leave blank and it never expires. Paid Dropbox plans only. | string | No | — | iso8601 format | — |
allow_download Whether visitors may download the item as well as view it. | boolean | No | — | — | — |
Example configuration
Every value below is the contract’s own example or default — nothing invented.
{
"path": "/Reports/2026/q1.csv"
}Output
One shape.

name The linked file or folder name. | string | — |

expires When the link stops working (RFC 3339), when one was set. | string | — |
{
"expires": "",
"id": "",
"name": "",
"path_lower": "",
"url": "https://www.dropbox.com/s/abc/q1.csv?dl=0"
}Notes
- Paths are absolute and start with a slash ('/Reports/2026/q1.csv'); the account root is the empty string. A Dropbox file id ('id:…') or revision ('rev:…') may be used anywhere a path is asked for.
- Uploads and downloads use content.dropboxapi.com and everything else uses api.dropboxapi.com; the nodes pick the right host for you.
- The connection's access token must carry the scope the call needs — files.content.write to upload, move, delete or restore, files.content.read to download, files.metadata.read to list, search or read metadata, sharing.read to list shared links, sharing.write to create or revoke one, and account_info.read for space usage.
- Dropbox refuses a second link with different settings for the same path — it answers 'shared_link_already_exists'. Read the existing one with dropbox.list_shared_links first.
- Passwords, expiry and edit access need a paid Dropbox plan.
See Create Shared Link run in a workflow.
In a technical demo we add the Dropbox connection, drop the node on the canvas and let Workflow Health pre-flight it before the first real run.
