A Zapier alternative, for when automation becomes infrastructure.
Zapier is often the first automation tool a company adopts. The search for an alternative usually starts when those automations carry real spend, real risk or real customers: AI calls that need a cap, a step someone must sign off, many tenants on one installation. Here is how OCNORA meets each need, how the move works, and when to stay.
Every Zapier figure on this page is quoted from a page Zapier publishes, with the date we read it, and is the same figure the full comparison prints. Every OCNORA statement shows its evidence level and the date it was checked. We do not state what Zapier lacks.
Who searches for a Zapier alternative.
- Teams whose automations have grown from two-step notifications into multi-step workflows with branching and model calls.
- Companies that need to run automation on their own cloud, or embedded in their own product for their customers.
- Security and operations teams who need a record of every run step and every change.
- Buyers who want to be billed on workflow executions and AI spend rather than on steps.
The reasons, one by one.
Each reason is a need, not a verdict on Zapier. Where Zapier publishes something relevant, it is quoted with its source.
Billing that counts whole workflows
You want cost to follow the workflows you run, not the number of steps inside them.
Billing unit, as Zapier publishes itTasks per monthzapier.com/pricing · 2026-09-22A Zapier task and an OCNORA execution are not the same unit; a multi-step workflow is one execution here and several tasks there.
How OCNORA answers itEvery deployment is quoted; usage is counted in full workflow executions plus AI spend. There is no free tier and no public price list.

AI agents under a budget
Agents and model calls are in production, and spend has to be capped per workspace, provider or tenant.
AI agents stated by the vendor, as Zapier publishes itZapier Agentszapier.com/agents · 2026-09-22OCNORA: a provider-neutral agent node inside the workflow graph, under per-tenant token and USD budgets.
How OCNORA answers itEvery model call is written to a ledger with its tokens and USD cost. Monthly token and USD budgets per workspace and per provider (on Embedded, per tenant) are checked before a call from an estimate and reconciled after it; a circuit breaker holds further calls when a budget is used up or a provider keeps failing.

A person must approve some steps
Some writes should wait for a named approver, with a timeout and a recorded decision.
How OCNORA answers itA human.prompt step suspends a run until a person answers or its timeout lapses, then routes on the answer or on the timeout branch. The decision is recorded with the run.

Your own cloud, or your own product
The automation has to run in your account, or inside your product for your customers.
How OCNORA answers itOCNORA runs on OCNORA Cloud, on the customer’s own cloud from the Docker Compose file or the Helm chart in the backend repository, or embedded in the customer’s product. The Helm chart runs each process role as its own deployment, including Workflow Health, Auto Fix and the task orchestrator.

A record of every run and every change
Audit and incident review need each step’s input and output and who changed what.
How OCNORA answers itEach run keeps its steps with their input, output, status and the connection used, and the audit log records who changed which workflow, connection or setting and when. The audit log is exportable.

Moving from Zapier.
There is no Zapier importer: each Zap is rebuilt in the builder. For most teams that is a short list of production Zaps, and each one is checked before it runs.
- STEP 1
List what runs in Zapier
Start from the Zaps that run in production and the apps each one touches. OCNORA’s importer reads n8n workflow JSON only, so Zapier Zaps are rebuilt, not converted.
- STEP 2
Find each app in the catalogue
Look each app up in the integration catalogue. Some providers have no typed nodes and are reached with a credential and the HTTP node.
- STEP 3
Rebuild from a template or with Build with AI
Start from a published template, or describe the workflow and let Build with AI draft it, then fill in the connections. Visual builder, expressions, test step.
- STEP 4
Check it before it runs
Workflow Health validates each workflow and pre-flights its connections on save and publish. Auto Fix repairs one broken node at a time and re-checks; a code finding it cannot answer can go to a host runner as a draft pull request or an issue; every other finding is handed to a person. A dry run executes the workflow graph with side effects suppressed, so each step’s output shape can be read before the first real trigger.
- STEP 5
Switch the trigger last
Run both side by side until the run history matches, then point the trigger at OCNORA. Each run keeps its steps with their input, output, status and the connection used, and the audit log records who changed which workflow, connection or setting and when. The audit log is exportable.

When to stay with Zapier.
We would rather you pick the right tool than pick us and regret it.
You need a very long tail of SaaS apps
Zapier publishes 10,135+ apps; OCNORA publishes fewer typed providers, plus an HTTP node and a request queue when one is missing. If breadth of long-tail SaaS is the whole requirement, that difference is the answer.
Procurement requires a SOC 2 report
Zapier states SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3. OCNORA documents its controls and shares them under NDA.
Nobody has to approve anything
If your automations are two-step notifications with no spend and no risky write, a governance layer is overhead you do not need yet.
